The title of this one owes an acknowledgement of sorts to Steve Martin's "Cat Handcuffs" piece, available in his fantastic 1970's book Cruel Shoes.

Darden Essay #4 - The Height of Our Swayze by Derek Bowler


This is an actual admissions essay that Derek wrote for Darden Business School at the University of Virginia. He had written three essays on topics of the admissions board's choosing, and essay #4 was the writer's choice.

Choosing a thesis question of "Using Patrick Swayze’s career as a metaphor, describe the progression of your adult life," Derek composed a moving piece with insight, feeling, and some real depth to it.

For the record, he was accepted to Darden but elected to go elsewhere.
